The Big 4 - SMART Goals example
Specific
What do I want to accomplish?
I want to increase my focus and energy and perform better at work.
How will I do that?
I have to ensure that I balance my work day well.
What specific actions or behaviours will help me do this?
- I will go on a walk around the block whenever possible to clear my head.
- I’ll not eat my lunch at my desk and use this time to chat with my co-workers.
- I’ll take on one project at a time. I’ll tell my manager when I feel over-worked.
Measurable
How will I measure and track my success?
I’ll keep a reminder on my phone to make sure I get up from my desk regularly to go for a walk.
I’ll meet with my manager once a week to discuss my projects and ask for support if needed.
I’ll regularly keep track of my progress in a journal.
How often do I want to measure this?
I’ll review minutes of my meetings with my manager to see how I am progressing.
I’ll review my journal at the end of the week.
Attainable
Is attaining this goal realistic with effort and commitment?
Do I have the resources to achieve this goal? If not, how will I get them?
Relevant
Absolutely! I want to be productive at work and take care of my well being. I have been meaning to do it for months!
Time-bound
By when do I want to achieve my goal?
I will start doing this right away and will continue it for one month.
I will check in after the first month to see how I feel, and if it’s made a difference.
SMART Goal
My SMART goal is to increase my focus and energy levels at work, by taking small breaks, and communicating with my manager proactively for the next 3 months.
Now it’s your turn to make a SMART goal.
