The Big 4 - SMART Goals example

Booster Progress

Specific

What do I want to accomplish?

I want to increase my focus and energy and perform better at work.

How will I do that?

I have to ensure that I balance my work day well.

What specific actions or behaviours will help me do this?

  1. I will go on a walk around the block whenever possible to clear my head.
  2. I’ll not eat my lunch at my desk and use this time to chat with my co-workers.
  3. I’ll take on one project at a time. I’ll tell my manager when I feel over-worked.

Measurable

How will I measure and track my success?

I’ll keep a reminder on my phone to make sure I get up from my desk regularly to go for a walk.

I’ll meet with my manager once a week to discuss my projects and ask for support if needed.

I’ll regularly keep track of my progress in a journal.

How often do I want to measure this?

I’ll review minutes of my meetings with my manager to see how I am progressing.

I’ll review my journal at the end of the week.

Attainable

Is attaining this goal realistic with effort and commitment?

I think so…

Do I have the resources to achieve this goal? If not, how will I get them?

I have to plan my schedule to make sure I am doing my best at work and take care of my well being. I’ll inform my manager of my plan so we’re on the same page.

Relevant

Is my goal relevant? Why is it important for me to achieve it?

Absolutely! I want to be productive at work and take care of my well being. I have been meaning to do it for months!

Time-bound

By when do I want to achieve my goal?

I will start doing this right away and will continue it for one month.

I will check in after the first month to see how I feel, and if it’s made a difference.

SMART Goal

My SMART goal is to increase my focus and energy levels at work, by taking small breaks, and communicating with my manager proactively for the next 3 months.

Now it’s your turn to make a SMART goal.
